Ode to Chile - In Colour

This book is a rediscovery of the country of my father, reflecting on my memories and the memories of my family in Chile. Returning to the landscapes from my childhood trips, myself and my father embarked on a road trip from south to north of our long, thin country. Looking back on the photographs from my family albums, I longed to become more in touch with my heritage, retracing my steps to these locations along the road trip. These notions of Place and Memory are inherently connected when it comes to thinking about landscapes, with the genre of the Road Trip in landscape work being reclaimed through the female Latina perspective. As a mixed British-Latina, the duality of my cultural heritage, being born and growing up in the UK, yet feeling misplaced in a sense, with my family across the globe. The desire to capture these environments within my images stems from my longing to better become a part of and understand my homeland, a place so rich with my own cultural identity that I long to truly belong to. To me, the physical entity of the landscape acts as a vehicle in which to contemplate and express this identity.
